The Boxing Lesson

by Brodie Owen With an eclectic and unique sound all their own, The Boxing Lesson takes listeners on a veritable journey that can only be described as exceptional. Their
latest release, Wild Streaks & Windy Days is both distinctive and familiar. Described by Burn TV as "a bastard child" of artists such as David Bowie and Pink Floyd this trio from Austin has brought
together influences spanning three decades to take their fans on a cosmic voyage into the outer limits of musical nirvana. Songwriter and guitarist Paul Waclawsky migrated to Austin from Los Angeles, inspired by the immensely popular Texas band Spoon and
their Soft Effects EP. Eventually he hooked up with the vastly talented Jaylinn Davidson (synthesizers, vocals) and Jake Mitchell (drums, samples). This joining of forces and the
resulting explosion of creativity has produced an album that explores the furthest reaching contrasts of the conscious mind… so much so that at times it can be confusing.
It is often said that songs, in their simplest of forms, are a type of musical storytelling. For many, it is a way to express the emotions that we all experience throughout the trials and
tribulations of life. My first few times listening to this album I found myself confused, and sometimes even frustrated. Trying to understand the story behind many of these tracks
reminded me of the proverbial "ink-blot" test. Several songs on this album drift back and forth in tempo and rhythm, and the lyrics seem almost non-existent (largely due to the
extremely low volume of the vocals). At times it was almost too easy to simplify my opinion of The Boxing Lesson as a group of kids on a really good (or bad?) trip with
Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds… after a marathon viewing of Pink Floyd's The Wall. Considering how talented these artists are, this was a particularly troubling idea.
It was a few days later, while on the parking lot formerly know as I-35, that my perspective was suddenly and drastically changed. After losing patience with the
endless radio commercials, my hand instinctively found its' way to the CD controls. I had all but forgotten that Wild Streaks & Windy Days was in the changer, and at first my
wandering mind paid little attention to the speakers. Without even noticing, I soon found myself relaxing into a calm that one would never expect to experience in Austin
traffic. The cars in front and behind seemed less and less important; my breathing slowed to a relaxed rhythm; my grip on the wheel eased and the chaos surrounding me all but disappeared.
Ironic it seems… that an album with such an ability to explore the depths of the conscious mind can elude understanding when pursued, yet reveal itself completely at the most unsuspecting moment.
Wild Streaks & Windy Days is now a staple during my daily commutes, one that I could not easily travel without. Their cosmic and psychedelic sounds are sure to take you on a
journey. The final destination is yours to find… as long as you don't look too hard for it. Although they are currently touring the west coast in support of their latest album, The
Boxing Lesson will be back in Austin on July 5 for the Exit Music Festival at Waterloo Park and again on July 18 for "The Next Big Thing" hosted by 101x at Emo's. With rave

Madagascar Sex Resort

The Madagascar Sex Resort, in fact, is a swinging good time
right from the get go. In true hedonistic fashion, Ivana and her man have come to the vacation paradise for some new experiences. Maybe I should say s-experiences since that's what
they end up getting. I'm not sure if anal and DP are "new" to Ivana (I'd tend to think not given the way she takes to a bone up
the butt.), but if that's what she's into, I'd say she and her man have come to the right place. The next time you're booking a trip to an island paradise, you should see what it costs
to go to the Madagascar Sex Resort. I'm not saying chicks like this are going to want to hook up with you if you're there. But you have to admit it would be fun just to be up
close & personal with them. You're sure to get sloppy simply by watching this DVD. It's the next best thing to being there. Check out the video postcard from this anal sex
paradise, and you'll see what I mean. Have fun booking your reservations. I know I did!

Stoya Video Nasty

Stoya Video Nasty is a six-scene all-sex movie directed by accomplished director Celeste who, in my opinion, creates some
of the most interesting sex scenes--from both the sexual and aesthetic perspectives--of any contemporary director. This Celeste release is particularly attractive because it features one
of the most unique and interesting newcomers to adult entertainment... Stoya. Stoya is definitely not the quintessential porn star. She's
certainly not the stereotypic "dumb blond" porn chick. Her adorable and oh-so-enticing body is all-natural instead of being artificially sculpted. Stoya has black hair and
porcelain white skin instead of the "typical" porn chick's blond hair and tanned flesh. She's an excellent actress who portrays her roles convincingly. And, you'll never see
anybody quite as passionate as Stoya...just look at her face when she's fucking some oh-so-lucky stud! By the way, you'll get plenty of opportunities to watch Stoya's ecstasy
during Stoya Video Nasty. She's in three scenes: two boy/girl and one all-girl threesome. Bottom line? By coupling Stoya's passion with Celeste's direction, Stoya Video Nasty
is definitely a worthwhile watch! |
